The undisputed genius of Jimi Hendrix has reverberated for the last 40 years since the advent of his explosive career that changed the face of the electric guitar forever, in his invention of controlled distortion, 'fuzz' and feedback that ensured that he remains one of the most influential and popular figures in rock music today.

The Classic Artists Series begins by documenting Hendrix's humble beginnings with his first bands, the Velvetones & The Rocking Kings, and working as a session musician with artists such as Little Richard and Sam Cooke, and on to his move to London in 1966 in order to create 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience', with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding joining Jimi in the making of rock history.

With chart-topping hits worldwide, from their first single 'Hey Joe' and the follow up 'Are You Experienced', to the infamous performances by Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and other memorable shows, the Classic Artists Series explores the magic behind the music by bringing the best of Jimi Hendrix to the screen.

Jimi Hendrix has contributed an original musical style to rock music that others have only been able to emulate, and this programme is a lasting tribute and story of the legend, told through exclusive interviews from those closest to him, and some who were in part responsible for bringing his music to us, as well as contributions from some of the greatest names in rock music and colourfully illustrated in rare archive footage, with the music of Jimi Hendrix.
